The Apostle Saint Jude Thaddeus is "The Miraculous Saint," the Catholic Patron Saint of "lost causes" and "cases despaired of." When all other avenues are closed, he is the one to call upon, and his help often comes at the last moment.
Outcasts of society, considered delinquent due to their inability to control their magic powers or their inherited customs, habits and instincts seek refuge at St. Jude's Academy. The children and teenagers, between the ages of 11 and 18, become students, while the adults become teachers, custodians, and care-takers.
The Academy acts as a sanctuary for the waning magic of the world. It is a haven for non-humans or half-humans, such as vampires, werewolves, goblins, mermaids, etc. Students are taught certain ordinary school subjects - grammar, second languages, math. But more importantly they learn etiquette, culture, and methods to control their magic.
St. Jude's Academy is located in Oakenbridge County, a fictional place with a landscape of rolling planes and small outcroppings of trees and rocks. Oakenbridge is not located in any country and is not attached to any continent: it can be accessed through all of them, if you know how, though.
Firebug is a story about overcoming stereotypes and keeping magic alive. The lore is shaped by the members. Characters can be any species, race or ethnicity that you can imagine. St. Jude is the patron of lost causes, and many would consider the students at the Academy hopeless. But these firebugs, monsters, and vandals are more than meets the eye.
