brief physical description:
Nanashi may have finally gotten the smell of blood off her (she smells like oranges, these days, but she’s considering changing her bodywash to something with a sweet scent) but it’s still painfully obvious Nanashi isn’t human - or, at least isn’t normal. From behind, you might see her as a petite brunette with two mismatching prosthetic arms and a cute little bob cut. Nothing too out of the ordinary, right? Well, when you see her from the front, you’ll notice that this cute little thing doesn’t have a face. Or, uh, maybe she does? It’s a little hard to tell when she keeps it hidden away behind layer of bandages.
Clothing wise, Nanashi completely fails when it comes to modern day fashion. The most recent outfit she owns dates back to the fifties and is, funnily enough, the outfit she tends to wear the most. It's a typical 50s Japanese school uniform, with a long pleated skirt and a black sailor-esque shirt, all topped off with a red ribbon and knee-high black socks. No matter what she wears, Nanashi does try to keep herself covered up out of a sense of modesty - she believes that showing any skin above the knees is trashy and to have uncovered shoulders is humiliating.
summary of personality:
Nanashi, in many ways, is the embodiment of the old-style Japanese thinking. She’s a chaste young lady who values politeness and discipline, and frequently helps her fellow students out of a sense of obligation. She openly admits to believing that her school is her responsibility, and if she wants it to continue doing well, she, too, must do the very best she can. Because of this, you can often find her participating in many of the school clubs and after-school activities. Despite seeming rather delicate at first meeting, Nanashi isn’t afraid of speaking her mind. She does, undeniably, express her opinions as politely as she can, but she will always say what she feels must be said, no matter how much it may hurt someone else.
points of historical significance:
For as long as she can remember, Nanashi has been a monster. Born when she crawled out of her own grave, she adjusted to her newfound state as a headless amputee rather quickly, considering how drastic the change was from... whatever it was she lived as before becoming a Kubikajiri. Most of her adjustment can be accredited to Hanako Mizawa, a fellow cemetery dwelling creature that educated Nanashi in the ways of hunting and harvesting human beings. Being a good little monster, she took to her task quickly, soon becoming well known in the spiritual community as an expert butcher - any creature with good taste would have Nanashi prepare their human meat for them or, for a little bit extra, have the young girl pick out a victim for you using her keen butcher eye.
However, no matter how much praise she received or how often people spoke of her wonders, Nanashi felt that something was missing... Something important. After speaking to her adoptive mother about the issue and considering it for some time, Nanashi came to a conclusion; she was missing a head. Sure, she was also missing her arms, but that was remedied quickly with the help of a demon metalworker who crafted her a pair of mismatching prosthetics. But a head... A head was something Nanashi couldn't leave to someone else. It was a personal, intimate thing.
After several more decades of thought, while preparing a feast for a group of well-known goblins, Nanashi picked up the human head she intended to use as her centerpiece and placed in on her neck. After glancing in a mirror, she became rather fond of her new look and decided that by using the left-over heads from her work, she could fill that empty spot inside her.
The goblins who wanted that head were none too pleased about Nanashi's new appearance and demanded that she return the head to them. She refused, finding the head to be comforting and deeming it her favourite, and the goblins declared that Nanashi was to be regarded as an enemy of their people and those who stood by her would be punished. Of course, people begun to avoid their once beloved butcher and her new head, eventually forcing her out of the cemetery and onto the streets of Kyoto, lost and confused in the 21st century.
That is, until the Headmaster found her and offered her a home. Without anywhere else to go, she traveled back with the strange man who didn't seem to be afraid of a monster like her. Now, all Nanashi needs to do is catch up with modern times and kick that nasty addiction to human flesh and she'll be ready to be released back into the world.
Maybe.
